PADI Self Reliant Diver Speciality

Experienced divers can responsibly explore the depths solo, making self-reliant diving an adventure for those who seek it. This specialised activity isn’t for everyone, but for those with the mental discipline and commitment, it enhances skills and boosts confidence whether diving alone, with a buddy, or as part of a team.
To enroll in the Self-Reliant Diver course, you must be a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, at least 18 years old, with 100 logged dives. Before starting the course, you'll complete a skills assessment with your PADI Self-Reliant Diver Instructor. The course focuses on mastering techniques to manage situations independently, usually handled with a buddy. You’ll learn essential skills like dive planning using air consumption rate calculations, ensuring life support system redundancy, and independently managing dive emergencies.
During the three self-reliant training dives, you will:
- Perform an air consumption rate swim to gather data for later calculations.
- Switch to a redundant air supply system in simulated emergencies.
- Swim and perform critical tasks without a mask
- Navigate to various points, including your exit and use of DSMB
- Simulated problem solving scenarios to better prepare for potential emergencies
