Becoming a PADI Tec 40 Instructor marks your transition from diver to educator in the world of technical diving — where precision, discipline, and adventure meet.
This course introduces you to the art of teaching tec diving safely and effectively, opening the door for your students to experience the thrill of deep exploration, decompression diving, and advanced gas planning.
As a Tec 40 Instructor, you’ll be qualified to:
- Conduct PADI Discover Tec programs
- Teach PADI Tec Basics
- Teach the PADI Tec 40 Diver course
You can also expand your expertise to become a PADI Tec 40 Trimix Instructor, enabling you to teach trimix diving up to 40 meters / 130 feet and introduce divers to advanced gas blending and planning techniques.

Entry Requirements
To enroll in the Tec 40 Instructor course, you must hold:
- PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (or higher)
- PADI Enriched Air Diver Specialty Instructor
- PADI Deep Diver Specialty Instructor
- PADI Tec 45 Diver certification
- Minimum 25 EANx dives deeper than 30 m / 100 ft
- Minimum 10 decompression dives using full technical equipment
Before submitting your application, you must also have:
- Certified at least 25 divers (no more than five without dives or from PADI Seal Team programs)
- Logged 20 decompression dives
- Completed a PADI Tec 40 Instructor course or qualifying equivalent
- Passed the PADI Tec 40 Instructor Exam within 12 months of application

Tec 40 Trimix Instructor Option
Advance your career further by becoming a PADI Tec 40 Trimix Instructor, extending your scope to helium-based diving and advanced gas management.
Prerequisites:
- Tec 50 Trimix Diver (or higher) certification
- Minimum 10 trimix dives
- Successful completion of the Tec Diver Trimix Instructor Course and Exam

Equipment Requirement:
We provide the standard set up as part of the course - So Backplate-Doubles/Sidemount BCD, Twin Regulators, Stage Regulators, Wetsuit, Mask, Tanks, Weights are included in the course price.
Note however Accessories/Equipments for redundancy are not included and can be rented or purchased during the course - you need: 2 x mask, 2 x cutting tool, 1 orange and 1 yellow SMB, 1 wet note OR 1 arm slate, 2 x Dive Computer, 1 x Lift Bag, 60m Spool.
To store all of this equipment you will need your own Tec Shorts, these are not available on rent and need to be purchased.
Mandatory Medical Statement:
All technical diving instructor candidate are required to provide a Diver Medical Statement signed by a physician within the past 12 months stating you are fit to dive
